We were looking for a UCC church and wanted one that was open & affirming to everyone. We had been to other local churches and didn’t find that to be the case, so we tried this one. Loved the “Lighthouse beacon” in the newspaper ad. It’s so unique from northern UCC church experience. Not stuck in “but that’s the way we’ve always done it”.
We were so happy to sing songs of praise that were positive & upbeat and sung in joy and not in a tone & rhythm of funeral processions. No hymnals! We have found a pastor who truly wants to know us. Although he speaks to the congregation, Pastor Bob speaks to each of us as individuals. He meets each of us at our own level. We were also surprised to get calls to us back in Connecticut to our home up north. Unheard of to other snowbirds, I’ll bet.
Originally, we were surprised that whole sermon wasn’t from a Bible passage although based upon it. The Lighthouse message is developed related to today’s times, and in turn to each of us in our day-to-day living. Our favorite thing is that the pastor gets to our level. Getting away from a pulpit. He is human! The vast array of people. Everyone is welcome. The mission statement says it all. Don’t have a bulletin in front of me… but I was impressed with “no matter where you are in life’s journey” says it all. This is a refreshing break in a tumultuous world. I feel renewed & refreshed in a message of hope.
