Bob, at the request of the Florida Conference, began Lighthouse in 2008 with a small group of dedicated people. His pastoral journey, which began in 1980, has led him to serve congregations from Pennsylvania, to Illinois, to Florida. Bob’s expertise in the early years of his ministry was working to renew congregations that had declined. The congregations he served all developed significant growth. In 1995, while renewing a congregation in Illinois, Bob had conversation with the denomination about starting new congregations. He was asked to consider assuming the leadership of a new church in Naples, FL that was struggling to survive. Bob served that congregation for 16 years while they developed a 10-acre campus with a Family Life Center and a Sanctuary seating 350.
Bob graduated from Lycoming College and began a successful career in real estate management in the Boston area. Answering the call to ministry Bob entered seminary, graduating with a Master of Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary. Throughout his career congregations that Bob has served have had a strong mission outreach in the community where they have been located. Bob has served on several Boards of Directors of community organizations, as well as serving on of committees in the Conference where he has served.
Bob has been recognized for his relevant preaching along with his strong leadership. Bob’s messages, along with his welcoming style help people feel at home in worship. We often hear women say that their spouses didn’t go to worship until they came to Lighthouse. We are blessed to have Pastor Bob as our Founding Pastor at Lighthouse Congregational United Church of Christ.
